Since getting a regular income is important for retirees, different financial institutions such as post office, banks etc offer different kinds of investment products. In the case of post office savings, for a fixed capital amount they provide an assured percentage of return. There is no tax deducted at source from this product
Mutual fund:
It has an element of risk as the returns are not guaranteed. The advantage with a mutual fund plan is that it offers the potential of capital appreciation over a period of time. Also, since mutual funds distribute their profits in the form of dividends, they are tax-free in the hands of investors.

This scheme is designed for senior citizens, as the Interest is paid out on a quarterly basis. Investors are also allowed to prematurely liquidate their investment at any time after the expiry of 1 year. It is an added advantage.

Real estate investment: It is a less risk involved option. This type of investment proves to be profitable, with long term ownership.
Investment in gold: As the gold price increases day by day, it is an important investment option for senor citizens. All investors are now turned towards this option to get high returns.
Start a business: Another good option to invest after retirement is to start a small business. It also provides an opportunity to enjoy their life while earning money.
Retirees can consider adding any one or more of the above investment options to their investment portfolios based on their needs. There are a number of ways where one would opt for investing their money with a surety of good return. Try to analyze your needs after retirement, and then opt a better option. Also keep one thing in mind; a good investment is ‘maximum return with minimum risk involved’.
